Prof Dr Wolf A Kafka is a Theoretical Physicist (Molecular Magnetism) and a Neurophysiologist (sensory physiology). His research since 1968 at the Max-Planck Institute for Behavioral Sciences (since the 90ties as head) concerned both the molecular basis and the industrial application of the physiology of smell, odor dissipation, reception, and discrimination and the biological effects of electromagnetic fields as well. Numerous international developments, patents, and prizewinning documentations are based on his performances. He is member and lector of several international renowned scientific societies and journals among others e.g. the New York Academy of Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences (AAAS) and neat member at the Peking University, in China. Since 1998 he is elected chairperson of the EMPHYSPACE international Research Center (space-physiology).
His work on animal odor conditioning and the development of SOKKS Micro-quantities-conditioning method was initiated by intensive discussions and attempts to improve the training of detector dogs of the Alpine mountain rescue service and the Bavarian Interior Ministry during the search for a lost coworker of his institute in rough terrain at Garmisch.

Dr. Miguel STEVENS graduated from the Veterinary School of the University of Ghent in 1984. He worked for 3 years in the Clinic of Internal Medicine of Large Animals at the University, and joined the Belgian Ministry of Defense in 1987. He served as Chief of the Veterinary Service of the Belgian Forces in Germany from 1987-1995, where he was responsible for food hygiene and for the purchase, training and veterinary care of the Military Working Dogs. He finished a master in veterinary Public Health and after finishing his Major school in 1999, he became Chief of the Belgian Military Veterinary Service. In 2005, he was promoted to Veterinary Lieutenant Colonel, and in 2009 he will be chair of the NATO Veterinary Expert Panel. Dr. STEVENS lives in IEPER and is Chairman of the Organizing Committee of this Conference.
